A stunning Edwardian mahogany sideboard by London Maker 'Edward and Roberts'. Finely carved with gorgeously rich patination and grain and of exceptional quality with delicate line inlay and exquisite marquetry panels depicting beautifully detailed flowerheads and scrolling foliate throughout. The moulded top of serpentine form is raised over shaped frieze with single drawer flanked with two deep drawers, all fitted with finely cast decorative brass lion masque ring pulls and escutcheons, supported on elegant square tapering leg, terminating on spade foot, stamped 'Edwards and Roberts' on centre drawer.
Edward & Roberts
Edward and Roberts were founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Edward and Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.
