A very fine 19th Century marquetry inlaid birds eye maple desk or library centre table, finely carved, ormolu mounted, line inlaid and cross banded throughout and of gorgeous quality with beautifully rich patination and fine grain. The moulded, crossbanded top of serpentine form is embellished with stunning marquetry detail of scroll, foliate and flower head motifs with a cartouche to the central reserve and trimmed to the outer border with ormolu flowerhead detail. Raised over shaped single drawer frieze with centred finely cast ormolu masque detail which is applied to all four frieze sides, supported on elegant tapering cabriole leg with stunning ormolu female motif detail on knee terminating on sabot cast foot.
