A very fine and rare 19th Century giltwood overmantle mirror of grand proportions. The original mercury mirror glass plate with some mottling is of shaped, rectangular form and is set within a fabulously hand carved moulded, fluted and pierced giltwood frame with canted detail to the top corner returns and intricate and elegant border of woven ribbon, foliate and sphere detail flanked with lambs tongue and beaded row detail throughout. Surmounted with a stunningly ornate, centred crest composition comprising of centred cartouche with cabochon with scroll detail flanked with an arrangement of trailing foliate and acanthus leaf motifs with beautiful swags of flowerhads and leaves, all exquisitely carved in high relief. The shaped and moulded platform base with a further arrangement of scrolling foliate to each of the corners, terminating on white porcelain bun foot.
