A very rare and impressive 19th Century giltwood overmantle mirror of grand proportions. The mirror glass plate of rectangular form with curved top is set within a finely hand carved moulded and fluted giltwood frame with elegantly simple alternating borders of lambs tongue, trailing flowerheads, egg and dart detail throughout. Surmounted with an elaborate pierced centred crest composition comprising of centred cabochon, wreathes of flowerheads, foliate and scroll motif detail flanked with trailing foliate and a pair of urns, all fabulously hand carved in high relief. Raised over two ring turned and fluted side columns supports with applied flowerhead paterae, beaded row detail and a further beautiful arrangement of scrolls, acanthus leaves and flowerheads, supported on shaped ebonised and giltwood platform base.
